Who Are We?

Our Face
We are few, where there are many. We are methodical, where many are rash. We are confident, where others are conceited. We are the Las Positas Community College Ultimate. Based out of Livermore, California from a community college that dons a losing team in every sport except ultimate, we still remain unheard of among the student body.

Our Memory
Despite the fact that Las Positas College has had a strong history of ultimate including a DI National title (1987, 8th place finish in 1998, 5th in 1994) and a DIII National title (2006, 2nd place in 2007) the student body at LPC knows very little about the ultimate program at our school. Students and teachers alike will both admit that they know nothing of the team. Las Positas College has had 4 different Deans in the past 5 years and each new Dean attempted to cut the ultimate program before the ultimate team was able to argue its case. Although we have no woman’s team, we have half a dozen women who practice regularly with the our open team and will even play a couple points with our team in tournaments.

Our Heart
Although we, as students, attend a community college, we find that our work ethic on the field is tough enough to match any four year institution. We work hard with very limited numbers to bring out the best in the few players we have. We constantly instruct both our rookies and our veterans to make smart decisions on offense and to avoid taking those high risk throws.

Our Birth
Ultimate has existed at Las Positas College since 1986. Although in its early years, Las Positas College was called Chabot Community College. Since then the name has changed but the location is still the same. One of the current coaches of LPC won college nationals with Chabot in 1987 (Kerry Karter). Our other coach went to nationals with LPC in 1998 (Ricky Nultimeier)

Our Legacy
The team originated in 1986 and still continues today. We have had DI nationals appearances several times including 1986, 87, 90, 94, 98 and a DIII Nationals title in 2006 and a 2nd place finish in 2007. The team did not attend DIII Nationals in 2008, due to an strife within the team whether the tournament meant anything.

Our Soul
We would love to make a strong showing at regionals and we pray for that shot at DI nationals. If we fail to make DI, our goal will be to win DIII nationals. We wish to improve every player on the team and bring out the superstar in every rookie. We know what it takes to accomplish every one of these goals. Effort in every player. Effort at every practice, at every tournament.

Our Pain
Our program is in jeopardy of being cut every year and currently we receive a measly $250 in total funding from the college. We only receive that money if the governing body accepts our request for money. As community college students, many of our teammates struggle with financial aid and must take loans from friends and teammates to make tournaments like Trouble in Vegas and Santa Barbara Invite happen.

Our Contribution
We have 3 players on our college team who help to coach local high school teams and encourage growth in the sport. Currently we assist in teaching ultimate at Granada High school (coach: Geoff Rexroth), Foothill High school (assistant coach: Nick Woefl), and Miramonte High school (assistant coach: Ernst Westphal). Occasionally we will get high school players to show up at our practices where we will include them in our drills, our workouts and our scrimmage. We also will run the occasional high school tournament, including the long standing Slopfest which takes place every year in Castro Valley, California in the middle of February.

Our Contour
LPC is a team that punishes its opponents when they turn over the disc. LPC values the disc immensely on offense and will minimize its turnovers. That being said, their team has a small roster and lately has been lacking in height. Despite the small roster, LPC works to bring out a very high quality in each and every player. LPC works to make each rookie into a caliber player by the end of the season. A player that will be proud to display his team's colors.

Our Plea
Our players are constantly struggling to pay for the next tournament and a sponsorship with 5 Ultimate would help tremendously. We would be showing off 5 Ultimate gear to a number of high schools in our area if we were to be sponsored. And lastly, we believe that LPC is a team that loves upsetting the big dogs. Including wins over Colorado, Stanford, Oregon, Brown and Arizona last year (with plenty more to come this year), I have full confidence that our team name will be forever burned into the minds of many big teams. And we will do it all, proudly displaying the name of 5 ultimate.
